The house where Schumann grew up

In 1817, the Schumann family moved not only their home but also their publishing house to number 550 Amtsgasse. It was here that Robert Schumann wrote his first poems and musical compositions. Together with his brothers, he staged theatrical productions and conducted the school orchestra that he himself had founded.

Sadly, the house was destroyed in the Second World War. The site is marked by a plaque on the pavement in front of the present-day number 11 Katharinenstrasse.
