Companies and clusters

The fourth largest city in the Free State of Saxony is making a name for itself worldwide as an automotive and Robert Schumann city, as it is one of Germany's automotive locations with the richest tradition. Automotive history began here in 1904 with the resourceful engineer August Horch, and after Horch, Audi, DKW and Trabant, the present-day automotive production is dominated by Volkswagen Sachsen.

In the place where standard left-hand drive and front-wheel drive were once brought to production readiness, there is now a dense network of successful companies and institutions that are also, but not only, active in the motor vehicle and supplier industry. The production profile ranges from pharmaceuticals, paint base materials and energy storage systems to insulation and refrigeration technology, from plant, bridge and engine construction to logistics, supplemented by trade, crafts and services.
