First documented in 1118, Zwickau is much more than just "a" Saxon town! Thomas Müntzer and Martin Luther preached here. Robert Schumann, Max Pechstein and Gert Fröbe are sons of the city. Silver and coal mining left their mark. Zwickau is best known as a city of automobiles.
The memory of Pechstein and Bleyl is preserved and cultivated in the art collections of the municipal museums. City history, on the other hand, can be experienced in the Priesterhäuser ('priests' houses'), which are among the oldest preserved residential buildings in Germany.
Zwickau offers a lot of "green oases" for leisurely walks, longer bicycle tours and adventurous games on more than 400 hectares of park and garden areas.
