The establishment of the Fraunhofer Application Centre for Optical Metrology and Surface Technologies (AZOM) in Zwickau is unique in East Germany and further strengthens Zwickau as a research location.
With the new application centre, the cooperation between the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology (IWS) and the Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau - University of Applied Sciences (WHZ) is expanded further. The AZOM expands the application spectrum of the IWS in the field of surface analysis. Furthermore, a number of students and graduates of the Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau - University of Applied Sciences are offered the opportunity to work on industrial projects. In addition, small and medium-sized enterprises in particular, which do not have their own research department, can have important tasks solved at the centre.
