Zwickau app

Guests of the automotive and Robert Schumann city can explore Zwickau itself even better than before. If you own a smartphone or tablet, you can download an app before or during your visit. It offers information on sights in German and English and presents topic-specific tours. The download is free of charge.

The app presents for instance museums and selected churches, special buildings or interesting parks. For these, a preview picture and often additional photos are available, as well as a short text. 33 of the 59 listed objects are marked as "Highlights" and can be called up in a separate list. This overview ranges from the August Horch Museum to the KUNSTSAMMLUNGEN ZWICKAU Max Pechstein Museum or the Robert Schumann House to the Stephan Roth House. Audio files are also available here.

A map always shows the location. If the user has activated the location services on his or her device, the route to the selected object is marked. This function also allows the visitor to display sights that are in his or her vicinity.

It also contains general information about the city, tips on parking in the extended inner city area, coach parking and the presentation of two theme-specific circular routes - the Schumann and Luther Trails. Guests of the city who wish to obtain further information, e.g. on opening hours or current event offers in museums, are forwarded to the relevant websites.

To limit the amount of data to approx. 27 MB, only the app, the texts and one image per object are loaded at first. The first time the user opens the app, he is asked for the preferred language version, whether he wants to use the locating function and whether he wants to download further image and audio files completely or only use them if necessary. In total the app comes to about 60 MB. This download is useful, for example, if WiFi is available. The app has been optimised for Apple iOS up to version 9 and Android, currently for version 5.
